I’ve been pretty crap lately with my time management so this has taken longer than anticipated to finalise but I am sooo pleased to be able to officially confirm what I will be getting up to this summer. I’ve been juggling with the idea of going to different places for a while and I knew that I didn’t really want to spend the summer in the UK (as much as I love the rain!) I started looking just before Christmas at what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go, I looked at Au Pairing, travelling, and the final option, going to camp. As you may have read in my Plans for 2015 post I mentioned about a few different possible places one of them being Croatia.
So after a Skype interview and sorting out all of the logistics it is finally sorted … I will be spending my summer at Camp California on the coast of Croatia. I will be a camp leader focussing on video production. Yep, I’m going to be teaching. I must admit I’m a little bit petrified as I have always said I couldn’t hack being a teacher so I know it’s going to be a very steep learning curve for me, but I really can’t wait. I have been researching all about it and reading over the guidelines I was sent and am a mixture of nerves and excitement. It will be the longest time I have been away from home (outside of the country) which would be ok if I had normal access to the internet but I will pretty much be cut off from all outside activity. I’m not really selling this am I? They ask you not to take mobiles and stuff just so that you really immerse yourself in the experience which I can totally understand but I don’t know how my mum will cope without our usual bi-weekly updates on Skype!
I chose Croatia instead of America because 1. The flights are cheaper and 2. It seems a bit different. A lot of the children will be from all over Europe so I’ll get a real mix of cultures and traditions which is what I love most about travelling. I can’t wait to listen to all of their stories and let my hair down for a while. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am not particularly a hearts and flowers kind of girl so I’m hoping I can embrace the cheesy/loving nature of camp and really get stuck in.
Just to make you all a little bit green with envy here is a lovely shot of the view I will be waking up to every morning…
Doesn’t it look stunning?
Anyway I still have a few months to wait so I thought I would start a new weekly post on my blog from other people who have been to camp, I have asked some different people to answer questions about their experience to give me and any of my readers considering camp as an option a way to get an honest and frank version of events from a person who has been there and experienced it. It’s completely unbiased which I think is important as there are so many different organisations that sort this kind of thing out for avid travellers. I will be starting my first instalment next week so keep your eyes peeled for that!
I will also be doing a little road trip of Croatia after my time at camp so I can’t wait to start planning the route for that! It’s all still very up in the air at the moment but the plan is that a few of my friends will fly out and meet me in Zadar and we will hire a car and make our way up to Slovenia! YAY I can’t bloody wait. This summer is really looking like it’s going to be amazing.
What are your plans for the summer? Do let me know in the comments!
